Terminally ill man to spend his remaining months volunteering in all 50 states

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) – A man with stage 4 cancer is on a unique tour across the United States to do as much volunteering as possible before the disease takes his life.
When 55-year-old Doug Ruch was told earlier this year he had just 12 to 18 months to live, he didn’t choose to stay home. Instead, he hit the road on a mission to help as many people as possible while he still can.
Ruch is now traveling across the country with a goal of volunteering in all 50 states after learning his prostate cancer had metastasized and was stage 4. He was first diagnosed in early 2021, according to his website.
“I thought to myself, ‘I have two choices: I can sit at home and wait to die, or I can go out and live,‘” Ruch said. “So, I decided I was going to go out and live, and that’s why I planned this 50-state tour.”
