Dog charity boss sues for £200,000 after being mauled

LawyersfortheinsurersoftheDogsTrusthavetoldajudgethatthecharityhasadmittedthatitbreacheditsdutyofcaretoKarlaHaines,34,aftershewasattackedbyanAmericanbulldogcalledJester.
ButtheinsurancecompanyhasgonetocourttochallengetheamountofcompensationthatitmustpayHaines,whoworkedasanassistantoperationsmanageratthetrust’sre-homingcentreinwestLondon.
ThecourtwastoldthatHainessufferedmultiplelacerationsandpuncturewoundsaftertheanimalbitherarm,whichleftpermanentscarringandcausedpsychologicalinjuries.
Haineshasblamedthetrustforallegedlyfailingtocontrolthedog,whichwassaidtohavebeenknowntobeterritorialand“likely”tobite.
Thecharitywasfoundedin1891byLadyGertrudeStock,aScottisharistocratandnovelist,andwasuntil2003knownastheNationalCanineDefenceLeague.
