Washington County nonprofit fills over 2,600 backpacks with school supplies

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Okla. — A Washington County nonprofit is making sure thousands of students are heading back to school prepared.
After months of collecting everything from pencil bags, to markers, “Pack the Backpacks,” a nonprofit in Washington County, has filled over 2,600 backpacks for students in need.
Shelley Davidson with the nonprofit says the goal is simple, make sure no students starts day one without supplies.
“Whenyoudon’thavethesupplies,youreallycan’tparticipate.Youmightgetbullied,youmighthavesometroubleandwewanttomakesuretheyarelearningasmuchastheycan,”saidDavidson.
It’snotjustthestudentswhobenefit.
“Teachersalwaysfeelthatburdentohelptheirstudentsandiftheyarehavingtobuyschoolsuppliesoutoftheirownpockets,that’smakingitreallyhardonthem,”saidDavidson.
Morethan300volunteershelpedthisyearincludingIsabellThoreson,whoisarepeatvolunteer.
