Buzzing about bees: meet Bran Romero, visiting volunteer and bee lover

Bran Romero spent several months visiting the Yakima Valley, where he volunteered for Cowiche Canyon Conservancy. Romero lives on the East Coast and came to the Valley in his role as a volunteer for Jesuit Volunteer Corps Northwest. It’s run by the Jesuit Order, but volunteers are laity or non-Catholics.
Romero wanted to make a difference and joined that volunteer organization after college. While in the Valley, he lived in the corps house on Naches Avenue in Yakima.
His work for Cowiche Canyon Conservancy included surveying bees for the nonprofit in March. That came after he got connected with the Washington Bee Atlas (WABA) in November. The bee atlas focuses on bees native to Washington, how they’re doing, which plants they prefer and what additional conservation support they may need.
