JennaHubaishyandherfiancéBenMertensoftenspendmanyhoursintheirgaragerefurbishingdollsandtoys.It’saskilltheypickedupafterHubaishywasscrollingFacebookmarketplaceandcameacrossahighlysought-after,oftenvaluabletoy.AnAmericanGirldoll.
“Ihadareallygoodchildhood.IhadtwoAmericangirldollsandIlovedthem,”Hubaishysaid.“IwastellingBen,Iwaslike,thisladyissellingthemforlike$10.Thesedollarsareusuallylike$200.It’dbeniceifthesegotoagirlwhowouldn’tbeabletoaffordit.”
Hubaishysaysshewantedtofindawaytomakethedolllooklikenew,becausemuchoftheappealisoftengettingtoopenitoutofthebox.Sotheyfreshenedthedollupandre-packagedher,findingafamilytoloveandcherishhernext.Sincethatday,they’vecreatedanonprofitcalledPHXDollHouse,andit’smorethanjustdolls.
“SinceMarch,wehavegiventoysto552kids,”shesaid.
Theirentiregarageisnowfilledwithdonatedtoys.T
